Al-Janoub Stadium, Qatar

The Al-Janoub Stadium, formerly known as Al-Wakrah Stadium, is one of eight stadiums to be used for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the stadium features a curvilinear design. The capacity of the stadium is 40,000, which is expected to reduce to 20,000 after the World Cup. The roof of the stadium is retractable, and is made from pleated PTFE fabric and cables, with the roof arches being 230 meters long. Newtecnic provided façade engineering design during the competition stage of the project, including concepts for the façade and roof systems and the structure of the external envelope.
