Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia

Federation Square is a venue for arts, culture and public events. It covers an area of 3.2 ha (7.9 acres), and incorporates a gallery, museum and cafes, arranged on a public space which uses the visual design of the building walls as a ‘fifth facade’. The facades comprise triangular tiled panels in a ‘pinwheel grid’ of different materials.

Working alongside architects Lab Architecture Studio, Andrew Watts of Newtecnic was responsible for the design development of the facade systems.
