Newtecnic wereinvolved the design development of the external envelope of a retail mall in Kuwait City.
Main elements were the development of the rooflights for the main spaces, the aim of which was to provide visually distinct effects of daylight but without the effects of solar gain that would result in overheating of the main spaces within the mall.
The main rooflight comprises curved baffles linked by a curved glass screen that allow only a small area of direct sunlight to enter the space in the middle of the day, casting a strong shadow across the centre of the floor.
The design was also informed by Ecotect studies in order to understand the effects of the limited solar gain occurring in the middle of the day.
