Newtecnic were involved the detailed design of the external envelope from the scheme design stage through to tender documentation.
Design studies were generated as options for different material systems. These included different ways of creating mesh-based facades for flat, folded and curved geometries. Larger-scale louvre-based designs were developed with accompanying structural and environmental solutions.
The design integrates a large glazed roof structure and glazed end walls with a long mesh wall and a long louvre wall on the opposite side of the building. These systems are linked by steel walkways at each floor level to form a continuous structural system.
This made the solution economic by making the material systems interdependent rather than isolated, resulting in a visually lightweight envelope.
